Considered the most important petrochemical feedstock in North America, with a consumption of almost 34 tons in 2022 – according to American Chemistry Council, Ethane, responsible for the production of various plastics, fibers, chemicals, chemicals, and fuels, has become increasingly essential.
With this in mind, Braskem, one of the giants in the petrochemical sector, decided to expand the Ethene production plant in Rio Grande do Sul and, for this, hired Intertechne to develop the project. The initiative was treated as one of the priorities of Braskem, given the importance and demand of the material in the world market.
The project relied on a multidisciplinary team of Intertechne engineers specialized in several areas, such as process engineering, piping, civil, electrical, instrumentation, industrial automation and project automation.
Despite the difficulties during the pandemic period, the team remained dedicated. “We work from home during the pandemic, which made the process very difficult. In August 2022, mechanic assembly began, with several stages carried out throughout the year until its completion”, this is what the Director of Oil and Gas Business Unit, Electrical Engineer, Francisco Vilas Boas, comments.
In November 2022, the project has achieved 95% completion, including the delivery of a database with the 3D model to assist the visualization and understanding of the work. The team also provided technical assistance in the field throughout the assembly phase, including the plant shutdown.
Already in January of this year, the expansion of the plant was successfully completed. The assembly was completed and the plant resumed its operations, quickly reaching expanded capacity.
The amplification project represents an important milestone to Braskem and Intertechne, reforcing the liderance positionn on petrochemila sector and showing the ability to overcome challenges to achieve Intertechne Consultores’ strategic objectives.
